Rally to mark the day against the Death Penalty and say NO to executions in Iran

IACNT- Sunday, October 12- On the occasion of World Day Against the Death Penalty (October 10, 2014) and to protest the alarming rise of executions in Iran, North Texans gathered in downtown Dallas. The judiciary system in Iran is neither independent nor just.

Many people are tried without the presence of a lawyer and without respect to the international and even Iran’s own judiciary laws. Many prison sentences are changed to death penalties due to political reasons. “Between July 2013 and June 2014, at least 852 individuals were reportedly executed representing an alarming increase in the number of executions in relation to the already-high rates of previous years. The Government also continues to execute juvenile offenders. In 2014 alone, eight individuals believed to be under 18 years of age at the time of their alleged crimes were reportedly executed.” Ahmed Shaheed, the Special Rappatur on Iran’s human rights said. This gathering was very well received by North Texans. Click here to see the photos of this rally.
