35th anniversary of the 1979 revolution

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the 1979 revolution, on Sunday February 16th, 2014, North Texans gathered in downtown Dallas to commemorate all the fallen heroes in the recent history of Iran. They commemorated martyrs of the Siahkal (Feb 8th, 1971), the Feb 8th 1982 massacre, the 1988 Prison Massacre and the recent martyrs after the uprising of 2009.

For 35 years, the Iranian people have continued their struggle to get to their goal of freedom and democracy.  This struggle has been led by the main opposition group, PMOI, who remains the hope for the future of Iran. The mullahs' regime has tortured and massacred more than 120,000 members, supporters and leaders of this organization as they fear their stance for change from oppression and tyranny to freedom and democracy.

Currently residing in Camp Liberty, Iraq, PMOI continues to be the voice and hope for the Iranian people. Since their relocation to Camp Liberty from Camp Ashraf to be transferred to other countries, the Iraqi government under the orders of the Iranian regime has continuously broken international laws by not protecting the unarmed residents resulting in many being killed and injured. Camp Liberty residents are protected persons and since the Iraqi government is not abiding by international laws, the residents must be transferred to a safe country. Further, 52 of the residents, who in a signed agreement had remained in Camp Ashraf to sell their belongings and who were executed by Iraqi forces in September of 2013, were secretly buried without the presence of UN and family members to hide the evidence of this criminal act.

North Texans condemned the increased number of executions in Iran and asked the international community not to overlook human rights in Iran because of the ongoing nuclear negotiations. They also supported the recent uprising in Iran by the Bakhtiari ethnicity.

North Texans also strongly condemned the secret burial of 52 Camp Ashraf martyrs who were slaughtered on September 1st in Camp Ashraf by Iraqi forces on behest of the Iranian regime. They demanded the international community, especially the United States to uphold its commitment in protecting the remaining members of Iranian dissidents living in Camp Liberty and transfer them to third countries as soon as possible.
