North Texans gathered in Dealey Plaza asking for protection of Iranian refugees in Camp Liberty

IACNT- Camp Liberty, located in Baghdad- Iraq, is a camp with an area of 0.5 square miles that houses close to 3000 members of the Iran’s main opposition group. Camp Liberty has been attacked multiple times by mortars and rockets, as recently as December 26th2013. In total, over 100 members have been killed, and more than a thousand injured.
Currently, Iraqi internal affairs are deteriorating and the Prime Minister, Nori Al-Maleki, has publicly asked for their expulsion. Additionally, according to a Memorandum of Understanding amongst the US, UN and Iraqi Government, the UN was originally mandated to have a 24-hour presence over the Camp. As of currently, there is no such supervision in effect. To make matters worse, T-walls, which were supposed to be installed to prevent casualties in case of attack, have not been installed either.

On Sunday, January 12th, North Texans gathered in Dealey Plaza to condemn the latest attack on Camp Liberty on December 26th and demand the international community to fulfill its obligation in protecting these refugees and resettle them to other countries. They also demanded the release of the 7 hostages who were taken in the last assault on Camp Ashraf on September 1st. Click here to see a video of the gathering.
